Nutrition claims are a key tool for FEDIOL members to accurately inform consumers on relevant and useful nutrients in vegetable bottled oils and enable them to make informed and meaningful choices.
The Nutrition claims Annex of Regulation. 1924/2006 was amended to reflect the importance of these claims on the European market, claims for which the scientific substantiation was acknowledged by EFSA in 2005.
Other claims of interest for the sector are related to Omega-6 fatty acids, Omega-9 fatty acids, the ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids as well as cholesterol. However, up to now there are conflicting views within the EU as to the relevance and benefit of these claims for consumers.
